Animalia

The words we use and the words we learn go far in determining the direction of our lives.

This week at work I saw, played out, in perfect example of the difference between diving into words and their meanings and holding ourselves away from them. A job, you could possible get, a passion you could possibly develop or not, because you were exposed to the rights kinds of words and taught not to be afraid of decoding technical language.

Meanwhile at home, Ariel was having a discussion about a few different scientific prefixes and their meanings. Simple exposure to this kind of information will open up doors for knowledge and safeguard from being inhibited by by big words.

The discussion started from a question: What kinds of animals don't like water?

So many prefixes and latin roots were involved in this discussion. Hydro, Hypo, Phillio, Hyper, Phobic etc.

Ariel had an awesome discussion and activity with the kids where they learned about the different parts of the animal kingdom.

Also this week:

Ada delved into what kinds of things she need sot do in order to start a jewelry business. She wrote a paragraph about butterflies and how they fit into the animal kingdom. She fixed her bike and

Nahuel: Helped fix bikes and conducted an experiment about the meaning of hydrophobic and hydrophylic.

Astor: Made an awesome airplane for Ada's birthday out of toilet paper rolls and hot glue.  He helped build a tent and fix broken parts, Helped make some shelves for his room to put all of his dinosaurs on, and helped Papa with a project putting insulation in the garage.

Leonardo: Read lots of books with Papa and made a drawing of a butterfly from the kingdom.
